Money’s too tight to mention..
So – another local government funding announcement day, and we’re none the wiser as to how the city’s placed for next year’s budget, as there’s a puzzling lack of detail in the second announcement from John Swinney. So far, all we’ve had are encouraging noises about fairness and working constructively with local government, and we’ll continue to take that on trust and look to work positively with the Scottish government – however, there’s a faint whiff of “the cheque’s in the post..” And, pardon me for being very suspicious of the spin that the minster thinks that Edinburgh is deemed worthy of extra funding on account of its “capital” status (and that is what, exactly.. ? More Grade A listed buildings ?) Or, could it be the price of Margo MacDonald’s support for a finely balanced budget vote ?
