Just because the media are speculating about a change of leadership in the Scottish Labour party , doesn’t make it it necessarily so – but it would be daft not to recognise why speculation is rife. The trouble with leadership contests is the implication that the future direction and success of a party depends on picking one person and heaping all the responsiblity for victory or failure on their shoulders – witness the trials and tribulations of the Tory party in recent years (oh dear, what a shame, never mind… ) . Already the vultures are circulating around David Cameron – it reminds me of the comment by Leo in the West Wing when he was describing a factional and  fictional Democratic convention as “eating their young” …
